Fairfax County, Virginia is a mixture of buzzing metropolis and peaceful suburbs located just seven miles outside the nation’s capital, Washington DC. Fairfax county is comprised of 406 square miles and includes the incorporated towns of Clifton, Herndon, and Vienna, and the independent cities of Falls Church and Fairfax. Fairfax County is one of the most populous counties in the country with an estimated 1,147,000 residents in 2019. In fact, the population of Fairfax County exceeds those of Montana, Alaska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Delaware, Wyoming, and Vermont. If Fairfax County were a city, it would be the 10th largest in country, ahead of both Atlanta and Boston. 

The county and city of Fairfax earned their names in 1649 when King Charles II granted five million acres to Thomas Fairfax, Sixth Lord of Fairfax of Cameron. At the time, the land grant also included what are now known as Arlington, Loudon, Falls Church, and Alexandria. 

Fairfax county now serves as the proud home to many government, technology, and Fortune 500 Companies, including the CIA, NCC, Freddie Mac, General Dynamics, Capital One, Northrop Grumman, USA Today, MicroStrategy, and many more.
